Performance of John Cage's 4'33" at Gaslights, Redruth on 22 September 2012, part of 4 Weeks 33 Hours, a series of artist's residencies devised and curated by Janet McEwan to celebrate Cage's centenary year.

Performance of John Cage's 33 1/3 at CMR, Redruth, on 22 September 2012 using 12 audio playback devices (turntables cd players). Part of 4 weeks 33 hours, a series of artist' residencies and events to mark Cage's centenary. Conceived and curated by Janet McEwan.

This music was played on the opening day of '4:33' project curated by Janet McEwan at Cornwall Media Resource, Redruth. Mary Fletcher had not seen the score of John Cage's 'Changes ' before and did her best outside on an old piano in the wind. Sept 15 2012

At the end she begins a performance of '4:33' which was not recorded but was very engrossing and much enjoyed. Stuart has given permission for Mary to upload this video.

Tomorrow is the first ever Pasty Festival Day in Redruth.. and to mark the occasion CMR has appropriated the window of the (sadly) empty former arts and graphics shop on Redruth high street, installing a work to link 4 weeks 33 hours to the festival. John Cage inserted screws, bolts and pieces of rubber between the strings of the piano to alter the sounds, and we have prepared our own piano strings specially for the festival by inserting pieces of pasty crust or 'crimp', instead.
CMR welcomes visitors tomorrow 2-5pm

Kane Baker, one of CMR's week 1 guest residents, gave a brilliant and illuminating lecture on John Cages; early years, punctuated with excerpts of musical compositions by Cage up until the groundbreaking 'silent' 4'33"
was produced. This is the first of three talks - Episode 2&3 on Thursday evening on the next two weeks.  A great opportunity to get an insight into the one of the most influential cultural pioneers of the 20th Century.
