Introduction to Membership
CMR is a not-for-profit organisation, does not receive any core funding and is reliant on voluntary commitment. It consists of a chosen group of Directors and a membership of practitioners.
There is an annual CMR Membership fee of £25. Revenue from this modest membership subscription is vital to allow the continuation and growth of the project. This helps to cover costs such as admin, publicity, building maintenance and exhibition / event costs. CMR is not a commercial gallery space, and is therefore not governed by the need to 'exhibit' art that is driven by commercial objectives. If you are an artist whose work is primarily defined or motivated by this commercial aim, there are many other galleries in the area that may be able to offer to support this, and we recommend that you try these first. However, an artist may have artworks for sale in exhibitions, and there is a commission of 10%. This freedom from commercial drive allows CMR to become a space for developing and expanding practices amongst a community of like-minded and thoughtful individuals. If this is how you work, or would like to develop within a diverse and creative community, this may be the place to be. Membership Ethos
The Mission Statement clearly describes our approach to, and ideas of contemporary art. The exhibitions and events show the types of work we are interested in developing.
This membership is open to artists, makers, curators, writers and thinkers at all stages of their careers who are interested in developing a rigorous, critically engaged level of contemporary practice, and who are interested in actively contributing to help promote the overall well-being of the project. Membership allows artists and practitioners to become proactively involved in the programming and establishment of shows and events within CMR. Applications are accepted by submission via this website or through the gallery. A committee will review the work and information and will decide whether they feel that your work and practice fits within the CMR ethos, and that membership would benefit you, existing and future members of CMR. |

_CMR Mission Statement
CMR is an artist-led contemporary art space and membership initiative based in Redruth, Cornwall.
CMR aims to develop a flourishing community of artists and practitioners through providing space to meet, present and discuss new work. This aims to inspire the individual on their creative path, and facilitates the potential to work together to network, stage exhibitions, develop projects and create new works that focus on a forward thinking aesthetic. CMR actively invites experimental, ambitious and genre defying work that may not easily find a platform within existing regional art venues. It is flexible in its attitude to mixing and crossing forms. This encourages adventurous work and encompasses all art forms - including painting, sculpture, installation, text, digital media, photography, film, sound work performance, public art, and participative, dialogical & relational practices. CMR aims to make a positive contribution to the socio-cultural ecology of Redruth and the surrounding area. CMR interacts with other projects and communities locally, nationally and internationally to reinvest, encourage and raise the profile of contemporary Cornish arts. This primarily makes it accessible within the local community but ultimately creates opportunities for all by forming networks further afield. |
