Ros Bason in conversation with Charmaine Honeychurch, 26 Aug 2012 from CMR Gallery on Vimeo.

Ros was an artist in the CMR exhibition 'New Visions: contemporary painting in uncertain worlds', 10-26 Aug 2012, at CMR, Redruth, Cornwall.

In the video she talks about the processes and indeterminacy of meanings within her paintings.

A short film made by, amongst others, Caroline Palmer & Paul Farmer, Directors of CMR, with music by Sue Farmer in 2010.

John Harris was a miner & poet, living in the 1800s. Born in Troon, near Redruth, from the age of 10 he spent 25 years working at Dolcoath Mine, before moving to Falmouth to preach scripture.

Throughout this time he continued to write, and is to be celebrated as one of the few historical representatives of creativity to emerge from the beating and bruised heart of the industrial mining era in this part of Cornwall.

You Have To Dream
A Writing Event @ CMR
Saturday 25 Aug, 10-2pm

CMR, Redruth’s newest contemporary art gallery, will be holding its first writing event, 'You Have To Dream', on Saturday 25th August from 10am to 2pm. This will be facilitated by Caroline Palmer, a writer who is one of Cornwall Media Resource's Directors.

During this relaxed session, Caroline will encourage participants to be inspired by and write about the exhibits in the show, New Visions, in fiction, descriptively or critically. 'New Visions: contemporary painting in uncertain worlds' is being curated by Duncan Hopkins, also a Director at CMR and features painting-based works by 13 artists, from Cornwall, North Devon and Austria.

You Have To Dream welcomes those with all levels of skill and experience, from professionals to those beginning to write. Musicians, song writers, actors and playwrights are also welcome to take part. At some point during the session, there will be a slot for a number of people to share their work with others if they so wish. CMR also plan to feature some of the work from the event on their website.

Nibbles, soft drinks, tea and coffee will be available freely throughout the session on a self service basis. The price will be £3 per person or free to CMR’s members. Booking is essential to ensure a place at the event.

A few shots of this exhibition, which continues today until Sunday 12-5pm, and next weekend Fri - Sun.

It is a colourful, thought-provoking, befuddling, exciting collection, and there are over 50 works that explore the curious and criticalnature of painting. See how artists work within the spheres of their ideas and actions.

It's a once-only chance to see all these artists together, so take some time out this weekend from the rain and luxuriate in the uncertain worlds of painting.

This exhibition, curated specifically for CMR Art Gallery & Project Space in Redruth, Cornwall, showcases the work of artists who use paint to present realities and perceptions in new and developed ways.

In the 21st century, what is the role of the artist who uses paint and pigment? What is the continuing significance of painting in an apparently restless and uncertain world?

This exhibition, featuring 13 artists from Cornwall, North Devon and Austria, offers possible answers to these questions. These working methods and artworks do not conform to some traditional expectations of painting found in Cornwall, which are often rooted in the histories of Newlyn, the modernism of St. Ives, and illusory romanticism.
